THREADING TOOLS / INDUSTRIAL PROCUREMENT

HSS Two-Piece Metric Tap Sets

Keep two-member lead geometry and set completeness explicit in a metric hand-tap order.

This fully ground HSS metric tap range is supplied as two-piece sets, not three-piece sets. Fifteen size-and-pitch combinations span M3 × 0.5 to M30 × 3.5. The listed lead lengths are six threads for the first tap and three threads for the second.

  • Fifteen size-and-pitch combinations from M3 × 0.5 to M30 × 3.5.

Sizes, Dimensions & Drive Interface

Dimensions are in millimetres except thread designations, drive labels and lead counts. Read each column with the dimension reference below.

Use the labelled dimensions with the component and holder drawings.

M6 × 1.0 is listed at 66 mm overall length, 19 mm cutting length, 4.5 mm shank and 3.55 mm square. The lead counts describe the cutting entry, not the number of complete turns the tool can produce.

Application, Chip Path & Selection Limits

Match the component and operation

Use the required hole and full-thread depth to review the two-member sequence. The six-thread and three-thread lead descriptions help distinguish the members, but the sequence must still match the application.

Check the operating boundary

A shorter lead does not mean zero bottom allowance. Do not assume a third bottoming member is included, or infer a complete national standard number from a family designation.

Compare the Adjacent Product Families

HSS Metric Three-Piece Hand Tap SetsKeep a three-piece hand-tapping set together through ordering, sample approval and replenishment.
DIN 352 HSS Three Piece Hand Tap SetSpecify the DIN 352 three-piece set and its dimensional series—not just three metric taps.
HSS Straight Shank Nut TapSource the nut-tapping geometry with the machine interface and nut blank—not an ordinary tap by M-size.

Keep the selected family, thread designation and dimensional reference together. Shared nominal sizes or drive shapes do not establish interchangeability.

Workshop, Material Handling & Order Organisation

Two-piece sets need an explicit member sequence and a different count basis from three-piece stock. Review the six-thread first lead and three-thread second lead with the chosen size before agreeing the set record.

Storage racks and machine area

Request identification for both first and second members and state the number of complete two-piece sets. A mixed assortment should list set contents explicitly rather than implying a third member from a general hand-tap label.

Bar-stock handling

Carry the HSS requirement with the item drawing when discussing material preparation for this range.

Component feed and transfer

Keep the approved item identity and dimensional revision with components during order discussions. Separate set members and complete-set quantities.

Plan the order around the approved item

  1. Define the thread and application using this product’s selection table.
  2. Compare the tool interface and cutting geometry with the sample or drawing.
  3. Agree sample acceptance, quantities by size and the requested pack arrangement.
  4. Reference the same approved item and revision for replenishment.

Quality Review for the Selected Specification

Count and identify both members against the agreed lead specification. A complete two-piece set is a different acceptance item from an incomplete three-piece set, even if the nominal thread matches.

Packaging, Custom Requests & Bulk Purchasing

Keep the packing brief specific

For two-piece set orders, list set quantities separately from loose-tool quantities. Keep first/second member identification and the approved thread/pitch together on the packing brief, especially where three-piece metric stock is also purchased.

Marking, packs & repeat orders

Request identification for both first and second members and state the number of complete two-piece sets. A mixed assortment should list set contents explicitly rather than implying a third member from a general hand-tap label.

Turn the selection into a clear purchasing list

Keep two-member lead geometry and set completeness explicit in a metric hand-tap order.

Product Questions

How many taps are included in this set?

Two. The source lists a first tap with a six-thread lead and a second with a three-thread lead; no third member is included by that description.

Is a two-piece set an incomplete three-piece set?

No. It is a separately specified product with its own member sequence and dimensions. Do not substitute members from another set without a geometry check.

Does the three-thread lead mean three full threads of depth?

No. It describes the cutting lead. Required full-thread depth, working length and bottom clearance remain separate selection factors.

What are the M6 two-piece set dimensions?

M6 × 1.0 is listed at L 66 mm, cutting length 19 mm, shank 4.5 mm and square 3.55 mm.

Can I specify a national standard from the family name alone?

No. If a particular standard and revision are required, provide them with the dimensional and thread specification for review.

How should this set be identified for replenishment?

Use two-piece set, exact size/pitch, both lead counts, drive dimensions and approved sample reference. Order by set count and identify any loose-member request separately.
