End Mills for Stainless Steel

Select stainless steel milling tools by the feature, machine setup and full tool dimensions. AXIMET’s UE and UEX catalogue groups bring together four-flute models for industrial buyers and distributors.

  • UE and UEX four-flute stainless steel series
  • Compare cutting diameter, flute length, overall length and shank
  • Quote individual models or a mixed-size assortment

Choose a Tool for the Feature and Setup

Start with the stainless steel grade and the operation. Compare the cutting diameter and flute length with the feature, then check how the shank and overall length fit your holder and machine clearance.

  • Identify the workpiece grade and condition
  • Match the diameter and cutting length to the part drawing
  • Specify the model and quantity for each order line

UE and UEX Catalogue Series

The catalogue lists 48 model records across UE and UEX stainless steel groups. Both groups are listed as four-flute. Each model table provides cutting diameter, flute length, overall length and shank diameter for comparison.

Choose a series and check the individual row alongside its dimension drawing. For a distributor's range, keep the model code and quantity associated with each size. Where a field is not provided, request the information required for the order rather than assuming it.

Dimensions to Review Before Ordering

Cutting diameter must suit the slot, pocket or shoulder and the intended toolpath. Flute length describes the cutting section; compare it with the planned engagement and feature depth. Overall length includes the shank and affects the available clamping position and machine clearance. The shank diameter must fit the intended holder.

For a recessed feature, review the whole assembled tool and holder against walls, fixtures and clamps. A longer overall length does not automatically establish the usable reach. Include the part drawing if the feature or access requirements are critical.

Planning Stainless Steel Milling

Stainless steel grades and their conditions vary. Provide the actual grade, condition and operation rather than ordering solely by the broad material name. Describe whether the work is slotting, side milling, profiling or another operation, and include the machine and toolholder details.

For example, an RFQ can identify whether the workpiece is grade 304 or 316 and whether the operation is a full-width slot or an open-side pass. These details help the supplier review chip removal and engagement with you; they do not establish that every listed cutter is suitable for every grade or cutting condition.

Chip evacuation, programmed engagement and machine rigidity affect selection. Review the proposed cutting conditions for the specific tool and workpiece; there is no single setting that can be applied to every stainless steel job. When replacing an existing cutter, compare its profile and complete dimensions with the catalogue entry.

Purchase Documentation and Repeat Orders

For a quotation, send UE or UEX model numbers and quantities, the stainless steel grade and the intended operation. Include any drawing revision, sample requirements, destination, marking or packaging details that matter to your order.

Agree on critical dimensions and acceptance criteria for samples and repeat purchases. Keep the accepted model and drawing reference with the purchasing record.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I select an end mill for stainless steel?

Start with the workpiece grade and machining operation. Compare cutter geometry and dimensions with the feature, holder and machine setup before choosing a catalogue model.

What is the difference between UE and UEX?

They are separate catalogue groups. UE0204A and UEX0204A list the same cutting diameter, shank diameter and flute count but different flute lengths. Compare the full model rows and dimension drawings for the intended job.

How many flutes do the listed models have?

The UE and UEX groups are listed as four-flute. Check the selected model's table for its diameter, lengths and shank size.

Is overall length the same as cutting length?

No. Overall length covers the complete tool, including the shank. Flute length identifies the fluted cutting section. Both are relevant when checking the setup.

Can I use one cutter for every stainless steel grade?

Do not assume so. Stainless steels vary, and the material condition, operation, toolpath and machine affect the selection. Provide the grade and application with your inquiry.

Which application details should accompany a UE or UEX order?

Send the selected UE or UEX models and quantities together with the stainless steel grade and condition, operation, machine and holder. Include relevant drawings and any sample or packaging requirements.
