THREADING TOOLS / INDUSTRIAL PROCUREMENT

100 mm HSS-Co Extended Shank Machine Tap

Specify 100 mm overall reach while keeping thread depth and chip direction separate.

The extended-shank HSS-Co machine tap series lists a 100 mm overall length across nine metric size-and-pitch combinations, M2 × 0.4 to M12 × 1.75. It addresses access and reach requirements that a standard-length tool may not satisfy. Spiral flute and spiral point configurations must be identified separately in the enquiry.

9 defined entriesSize-by-size dimensions for an identifiable purchasing list.
HSS-CoTie the tool-material requirement to the selected application.
Order-line controlKeep the approved geometry and quantities together for replenishment.
  • 100 mm overall length across the listed range.
  • Cobalt high-speed steel construction.
  • Spiral flute and spiral point configurations.
  • Special length enquiries can be supplied with a sample or drawing.

Sizes, Dimensions & Drive Interface

Dimensions are in millimetres except thread designations, drive labels and lead counts. Read each column with the dimension reference below.

Match pilot-hole preparation to the thread system, workpiece and agreed acceptance requirement.

The M6 × 1.0 entry combines L 100 mm with Lc 19 mm, d 6 mm and k 4.5 mm. Compare the working section and clamping space with the recess drawing rather than selecting by length alone.

Application, Chip Path & Selection Limits

Match the component and operation

Use the component drawing to show recess depth, entry restrictions, required full thread and holder clearance. A spiral flute configuration and a spiral point configuration address different chip paths, even when both share the extended-length brief.

Check the operating boundary

100 mm is the overall tool length, not an available thread depth or a guarantee of rigid access. A longer reach also requires attention to support, alignment and clearance. Do not assume every pictured configuration is offered in every size.

Compare the Adjacent Product Families

Product familySelection boundary to review
HSS Metric Spiral Flute Machine TapGeneral metric return-chip spiral flute series for blind-hole selection; retain the published dimensions.
HSS Metric Spiral Point Machine TapKeep the chip exit clear when sourcing metric taps for through-hole work.
HSS 1/4 Inch Hex Shank Spiral Flute TapCombine a defined hex interface with a return-chip flute form for blind-hole selection.

Keep the selected family, thread designation and dimensional reference together. Shared nominal sizes or drive shapes do not establish interchangeability.

Workshop, Material Handling & Order Organisation

The 100 mm family needs a reach drawing and an explicit cutting configuration. Review the requested flute or point form together with the working length, rather than treating all extended tools as one interchangeable stock line.

Storage racks and machine area

Keep 100 mm overall length and the approved flute/point configuration in the item reference. For a special-length request, attach the drawing revision to the proposed packaging and reorder list.

Bar-stock handling

Carry the HSS-Co requirement with the item drawing when discussing material preparation for this range.

Component feed and transfer

Keep the approved item identity and dimensional revision with components during order discussions. Use the exact thread and drive dimensions to distinguish similar tools.

Plan the order around the approved item

  1. Define the thread and application using this product’s selection table.
  2. Compare the tool interface and cutting geometry with the sample or drawing.
  3. Agree sample acceptance, quantities by size and the requested pack arrangement.
  4. Reference the same approved item and revision for replenishment.

Quality Review for the Selected Specification

Use the signed dimensional drawing to establish reach acceptance. Check overall length and holder fit separately from the cutting section; a length measurement does not verify the requested point or flute configuration.

Packaging, Custom Requests & Bulk Purchasing

Keep the packing brief specific

For a special reach enquiry, provide a drawing or sample with the inaccessible feature marked. List the chip direction, overall length, working length and holder dimensions together so a replacement is not ordered simply as long M6 tap.

Marking, packs & repeat orders

Keep 100 mm overall length and the approved flute/point configuration in the item reference. For a special-length request, attach the drawing revision to the proposed packaging and reorder list.

Product Questions

Does 100 mm mean a 100 mm thread can be tapped?

No. It is the overall tool length. The cutting section is much shorter and the usable full-thread depth also needs lead and clearance allowances.

Are spiral flute and spiral point extended taps the same configuration?

No. The flute form returns chips towards the entrance, while the point form sends chips forwards. Identify the required form with the hole type and chip space.

Which thread sizes have the listed 100 mm overall length?

Nine combinations run from M2 × 0.4 to M12 × 1.75. Refer to the table for the working length, shank and square at each size.

What dimensions are listed for the extended M6 × 1.0?

L 100 mm, Lc 19 mm, d 6 mm and k 4.5 mm. The 19 mm working section is not a guaranteed 19 mm full-thread depth.

What is needed for a special-length request?

A sample or drawing showing overall reach, working length, thread/pitch, drive dimensions and component clearance. Also identify workpiece material and chip direction.

Can a longer tap be substituted without checking the holder?

No. Confirm clamping length, alignment, available travel and recess clearance. Reach alone does not establish a safe or suitable setup.
