THREADING TOOLS / INDUSTRIAL PROCUREMENT

DIN 376 HSS Spiral Flute Machine Tap

Keep the reduced-shank blind-hole tap separate from DIN 371 stock with the same thread label.

The DIN 376 spiral flute machine tap range has 18 listed nominal metric sizes from M3 to M24. Its reduced-shank dimensions and return-chip flute form define a different purchasing choice from both DIN 371 spiral flute and DIN 376 spiral point taps.

18 defined entriesSize-by-size dimensions for an identifiable purchasing list.
HSS / HSS-CoTie the tool-material requirement to the selected application.
Order-line controlKeep the approved geometry and quantities together for replenishment.
  • Fully ground DIN 376 spiral flute design with a reduced shank.
  • Spiral flute geometry for blind hole chip evacuation.
  • HSS and HSS-Co material options.
  • Listed sizes: M3–M24.

Match pilot-hole preparation to the thread system, workpiece and agreed acceptance requirement.

For M6, L 80 mm, Lc 10 mm, d 4.5 mm and k 3.4 mm are listed. The M3 square field is unspecified, while larger rows have their own square values; do not extrapolate from a neighbouring entry.

Application, Chip Path & Selection Limits

Match the component and operation

Use the spiral flute form when reviewing chip removal from a blind hole, and check the reduced-shank interface against the existing holder. Workpiece grade and full-thread depth remain necessary to select the actual execution.

Check the operating boundary

The cutting section is not a guaranteed full-thread depth. A DIN 376 designation does not establish a specific helix angle, coating, torque capacity or material-wide performance claim.

Compare the Adjacent Product Families

Product familySelection boundary to review
DIN 371 HSS Spiral Flute Machine TapChoose a DIN 371 blind-hole tool using both flute form and reinforced-shank dimensions.
DIN 376 HSS Spiral Point Machine TapSeparate reduced-shank reach and forward chip clearance in a DIN 376 point-tap enquiry.
HSS Metric Spiral Flute Machine TapGeneral metric return-chip spiral flute series for blind-hole selection; retain the published dimensions.

Keep the selected family, thread designation and dimensional reference together. Shared nominal sizes or drive shapes do not establish interchangeability.

Workshop, Material Handling & Order Organisation

A reduced-shank spiral flute item must stay distinct from the point version through sample review and purchasing. Keep the blind-hole depth requirement, cutting section and drive dimensions connected to the approved reference.

Storage racks and machine area

Request DIN 376 spiral flute with the exact size/pitch on the identification. If point taps are in the same shipment, separate their counts and reference drawings rather than relying on a common DIN number.

Bar-stock handling

Carry the HSS / HSS-Co requirement with the item drawing when discussing material preparation for this range.

Component feed and transfer

Keep the approved item identity and dimensional revision with components during order discussions. Use the exact thread and drive dimensions to distinguish similar tools.

Plan the order around the approved item

  1. Define the thread and application using this product’s selection table.
  2. Compare the tool interface and cutting geometry with the sample or drawing.
  3. Agree sample acceptance, quantities by size and the requested pack arrangement.
  4. Reference the same approved item and revision for replenishment.

Quality Review for the Selected Specification

An acceptance drawing should identify both the reduced-shank transition and the flute form. At small sizes, agree any unspecified drive dimension before assessing holder interchangeability.

Packaging, Custom Requests & Bulk Purchasing

Keep the packing brief specific

For distributor replenishment, keep the reduced-shank dimensions linked to spiral flute geometry. Include required pitch and the customer’s depth requirement so a DIN 376 spiral point tool is not supplied as a blind-hole equivalent.

Marking, packs & repeat orders

Request DIN 376 spiral flute with the exact size/pitch on the identification. If point taps are in the same shipment, separate their counts and reference drawings rather than relying on a common DIN number.

Turn the selection into a clear purchasing list

Keep the reduced-shank blind-hole tap separate from DIN 371 stock with the same thread label.

Product Questions

How does DIN 376 spiral flute differ from DIN 371 spiral flute?

Both have return-chip flutes, but the listed drive dimensions differ. At M6, DIN 376 is d 4.5 mm/k 3.4 mm, while DIN 371 is d 6 mm/k 4.9 mm.

What sizes are listed in this reduced-shank spiral flute family?

Eighteen nominal metric entries from M3 to M24. Pitch should be specified separately because it is not printed in the size designations.

Is the M6 cutting length the same as the DIN 376 spiral point tap?

No. The spiral flute entry has Lc 10 mm, while the spiral point entry has Lc 15 mm. Geometry and depth allowance need separate checks.

Can the M3 dash in the square column be used as a measured value?

No. It means no value is provided in that source row. Use a dimensioned interface drawing for selection.

Can this tap cut full threads to the end of its flutes?

Do not assume that. The lead and bottom clearance reduce the usable full-thread reach, and chip space must also be considered.

How do I identify a DIN 376 spiral flute replacement accurately?

Include nominal size and pitch, spiral flute, L/Lc/d/k, requested material and the approved sample reference. Add blind-hole and holder details to the RFQ.
