End Mills for Aluminium

Build your aluminium end mill range by cutting diameter, flute count and shank size. AXIMET’s AE and AES catalog groups provide two- and three-flute models that can be specified by individual model code.

  • AE and AES two- and three-flute catalog groups
  • Model-level cutting and shank dimensions
  • Suitable for specifying aluminium milling requirements

Choose an Aluminium End Mill for the Job

An end mill for aluminium must match the feature, toolholder and machine setup as well as the workpiece. Start with the required cutter diameter and cutting length, then review flute count and shank size on the individual model row.

  • Compare two- and three-flute options for the operation.
  • Match flute length and holder clearance to the feature.
  • Keep model code and quantity together for a mixed order.

AE Series and Model Dimensions

The catalog contains 42 model records across the AE and AES groups: R067 lists two-flute models and R068 lists three-flute models. The tables identify cutting diameter, flute length, overall length, shank diameter and flute count. Not every size or shank option appears in both groups, so check the specific row before ordering.

For example, AE0302A and AE0302 list the same cutting diameter and flute count but different shank diameters. A buyer changing between holders should keep that difference visible on the order line.

The AES series is listed separately as a high-efficiency aluminium range. Check the complete rows when comparing the two: AE1003 and AES1003 list the same cutting diameter, shank diameter and flute count, but different flute lengths. These dimensions alone do not establish a performance difference.

Two Flutes or Three?

Flute count is one part of the selection. Chip space, material condition, engagement, cutter geometry and the machine setup all affect the operation. A two-flute cutter is not automatically correct for every aluminium job, and a three-flute cutter is not automatically faster. Use the feature and the machining conditions to choose among the listed models.

For a slot, check the width, depth and chip evacuation. For an open-side cut, the contact and clearance conditions may differ. Share the planned operation, aluminium grade and the number of each model required when a comparison is needed. A distributor building a mixed range can use the model table to select sizes for the holders its customers actually use.

Dimensions That Matter to Purchasing

Cutting diameter. Match the cutter to the required slot or feature width and the intended toolpath.

Flute length. Compare the cutting section with the wall height or axial engagement. Flute length is not the tool's total length.

Overall length and holder fit. Check the length against the available space and select the listed shank diameter that fits the holder. Longer tools do not by themselves guarantee clearance inside a deep feature.

Model and quantity. Keep each diameter, flute count and shank combination on its own order line. This makes sample approval and replenishment easier to compare with the quotation.

Related Tool Profiles

For a curved surface, compare the ball nose end mill for aluminium. When the part drawing specifies a radiused cutter corner, review the corner radius end mill for aluminium. These profiles produce different feature geometry and should not be substituted on diameter alone.

Quality and Order Information

Identify the model, drawing revision and dimensions that matter to your receiving inspection. If sample approval is required, include the application and acceptance criteria with the request. For wholesale orders, provide quantities per model and any specific marking, packaging or documentation requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I check when selecting an end mill for aluminium?

Start with the aluminium grade, feature geometry and operation, then compare cutter diameter, flute length, shank and available machine clearance.

Are two- and three-flute AE models available?

Yes. The catalog lists two AE groups with these flute counts. Check each model row for the dimensions available in that group.

Can AE0302A replace AE0302 in the same toolholder?

Check the holder bore and clamping arrangement first. The AE0302A and AE0302 shanks differ, so a shared cutting diameter does not establish direct replacement.

What is different when selecting an AE cutter for a slot or an open side?

A slot encloses the cutter on both sides, so review chip evacuation and the planned engagement. An open-side pass has different clearance; include the operation and part drawing with the model request.

Can a flat end mill replace a ball nose tool?

Their end profiles produce different shapes. Compare the part drawing and programmed toolpath before considering a substitution.

What should I send for an aluminium end mill quotation?

Provide the AE models and quantities or your drawing, aluminium grade, machining operation, machine and holder, destination and any packaging or sample requirements.

Request a Quote for End Mills for Aluminium
