GEMA GEMB Series · R083

When your graphite electrode has a deep slot or recessed feature, selecting by cutter diameter alone can leave you with the wrong reach. Compare AXIMET’s GEMA and GEMB long reach end mill models by cutting diameter, flute length and effective length before preparing your order.
Choose the GEMA or GEMB tool with a cutting diameter suited to the slot or feature, then compare its flute length and effective length with your part drawing. The right assembly must allow the cutter and holder to reach the working area without interference.
The graphite deep-groove range contains 20 catalogue models. The listed GEMA models have two flutes; the listed GEMB models have four. Dimensions vary within each series, so a diameter alone does not identify a complete tool. Check the model row and dimension drawing together when preparing a mixed order.
For example, GEMA0504A and GEMA0506A share the same listed cutting diameter and flute length but have different effective lengths. Select by the full model code and compare the catalogue rows. A longer effective length is useful only if the complete tool and holder can enter the feature safely.
The catalogue uses three separate length fields. Flute length (Lc) describes the fluted cutting section. Effective length (L1) is the dimension identified on the catalogue drawing. Overall length (L) describes the whole tool. Do not treat overall length as the maximum cavity depth or assume that all of the effective length is cutting length.
Start with the deepest required feature and the space around it. Compare the proposed tool projection, neck and holder profile with the workpiece and fixture. If the drawing does not define a clearance, send a part section with the inquiry. When two effective-length options are available, consider whether the shorter one provides sufficient access for the job.
Deep graphite grooves. Identify groove width, depth and the radius permitted at internal corners. The cutter must enter the opening and reach the planned depth; check the path as well as the catalogue diameter.
Electrode features. For mold-electrode production, share the electrode geometry and the surface requirements. A long-reach flat-ended tool may be appropriate for a narrow feature; for a rounded contour, compare the long-reach graphite ball-nose range against the programmed profile and available clearance.
Recessed areas. Review access around cavity walls, clamps and the holder. Match the listed effective length to the drawing rather than relying on the series name alone.
Graphite machining creates dust; use extraction and handling arrangements appropriate to your machine and facility. Follow the machine and material supplier’s instructions for the operating setup.
For a distributor assortment, put the requested model, quantity and dimensions on each line. Keep the drawing revision and holder requirements with the model. If a sample is required, agree in advance on the dimensions and features to review, and evaluate it using the intended workpiece and setup. Include any requested packaging, marking and documentation in the inquiry for review with the quotation.

Review GEMA and GEMB dimensions for the graphite feature, paying attention to cutting diameter and the access shown on the drawing.

It is selected for graphite features where the tool needs access beyond the cutting section, such as a deep groove or recessed electrode detail. The actual model must fit the feature, holder and machine setup.
Flute length is the length of the fluted cutting section. Effective length is a separate catalogue dimension shown on the tool drawing; it should not be assumed to be a cutting length.
No. The listed models have different effective and overall lengths. Compare complete rows for the diameter and flute configuration you need.
Compare the required feature depth and clearance with the cutting and effective lengths shown on each GEMA or GEMB model drawing. Choose an assembly with sufficient access and check the holder and fixture.
Send the model and quantity for each line, or a drawing with diameter, cutting and effective lengths, shank size, graphite application, machine and holder details. Include packing and marking requirements if relevant.
Include the requested model and trial quantity in your inquiry. Share the intended test setup and acceptance requirements so sample availability and order terms can be discussed.
Send your GEMA or GEMB model numbers and quantities, together with the required cutting diameter, effective length and feature depth. Include feature dimensions and holder details if access is restricted.
