Solid Carbide Drills

Choose a solid carbide drill by hole diameter, flute length and shank diameter. AXIMET's NHA and NHB series give distributors and industrial buyers two catalog ranges to compare by model.

  • NHA and NHB two-flute series
  • Model-by-model dimensions for assortment planning
  • Size-by-size ordering for distributor and industrial tool programs

Select a Solid Carbide Drill by Hole and Machine Requirements

A drill must fit more than the nominal hole size. The NHA and NHB solid carbide drill series give buyers two catalogue ranges to compare by diameter, flute length, overall length and shank diameter. Start with the drawing and the workpiece, then choose the model whose dimensions suit the required hole and the available setup.

Send Your Drill List

  • NHA and NHB series for model-by-model drill selection
  • Compare drill diameter, flute length and shank size
  • Specify hole depth, workpiece and holder requirements for quotation

NHA and NHB Solid Carbide Drill Series

Both catalogue series use a two-flute geometry and are organised by individual model. Dimensions are listed against each item so you can select the cutting diameter and then check the remaining dimensions before adding it to a purchase list.

NHA Series

The NHA series is listed by cutting diameter, flute length, overall length and shank diameter. Check the complete row for each requested diameter against the hole drawing and holder.

NHB Series

The NHB series gives you another set of dimensional options. For example, NHA030 and NHB030 share a nominal diameter in the catalog but have different listed flute lengths. Compare the complete rows when ordering; the same diameter alone does not establish the same reach or holder fit.

Read the Specification Table

FieldWhat to check
ModelUse the complete NHA or NHB code to identify the intended item.
Cutting diameter (D)Match the nominal drill size to the hole requirement and planned finishing operation.
Flute length (Lc)Compare the listed length with the required drilling depth and chip clearance needs.
Overall length (L)Check machine clearance and access to the workpiece.
Shank diameter (d)Match the tool shank with the holder's clamping range.
Flutes (F)Both catalogue series are listed as two-flute drills.

Drill selection depends on the model and job. Flute length is a tool dimension, not an automatic promise of maximum drilling depth. Check the usable depth and machining conditions for the selected drill.

Specify the Holemaking Task Before Ordering

The workpiece and operation determine what information your supplier needs to select a drill. Include the material and its condition on each line of your inquiry when the assortment covers different jobs.

Production Holes

For repeat holemaking, provide the hole diameter, depth and required finish together with the machine and holder details. If the hole is followed by reaming or another finishing operation, include that requirement in the drawing or inquiry.

Blind and Through Holes

Identify whether the hole stops inside the workpiece or passes through it. A blind hole needs defined depth and clearance at the bottom; a through hole also requires attention to the exit side and workholding. State the required geometry rather than selecting on drill diameter alone.

Distributor Assortments

For a mixed range, list requested diameters and quantities alongside the desired series. Check that the shank sizes suit the holders used by your customers, and keep flute length and overall length attached to each model when preparing your order list.

How to Choose the Right Drill for Your Order

1. Define the hole. Record the nominal diameter, depth, tolerance and whether the hole is blind or through. 2. Describe the workpiece. Provide the material grade, condition and production operation. Include a drawing when the hole has special requirements. 3. Compare NHA and NHB. At the selected diameter, review flute length, overall length and shank diameter on the corresponding model rows. 4. Check the setup. Identify the machine, holder and coolant arrangement. Ensure the drill and holder fit the available space and intended operation. 5. Prepare the order list. Include model codes, quantity by item, delivery destination and packaging requirements.

Solid Carbide, HSS and Coolant Options

Solid carbide and HSS describe tool materials; internal coolant describes a coolant delivery feature. They are not competing names for the same choice: a solid carbide drill can also have internal coolant passages. Select the drill construction and coolant arrangement required by the operation, then check the individual product specification.

If your application requires coolant through the tool, share the machine interface and hole requirements when you inquire. Our through-coolant drill range can be reviewed for that requirement.

Product Identification for Procurement

For each order, keep the model code and dimensions together on the purchasing record. Before approving a sample, agree on the drawing revision, dimensions to check and any required documentation for the selected item. Use the approved model and reference for repeat orders; if the drawing, finish or packaging changes, identify the revision in the next RFQ.

For mixed assortments, send the quantity for each model rather than only a total quantity. This gives your team a line-by-line basis for comparing the quotation, labels and delivery requirements.

Prepare Your Solid Carbide Drill Inquiry

Send a model list or drawing with the cutting diameter, required hole depth, workpiece material, machine and holder information, quantities and destination. If your order has packaging or marking requirements, include them with the quantities so the quotation can address your complete request.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose between NHA and NHB drills?

Compare the model rows at the required cutting diameter. Review flute length, overall length and shank diameter against the hole depth, machine clearance and holder. The same diameter does not mean the two series have identical lengths.

Does flute length equal maximum drilling depth?

No. Flute length is a dimension of the tool, while usable drilling depth also depends on the drill geometry, workpiece and setup. Provide the required depth and hole type when selecting a model.

What information should I send for a drill quotation?

Send the model or required diameter, flute length and shank diameter, the material and hole depth, quantity by size and delivery destination. Include machine, holder and coolant requirements when they affect the choice.

Are solid carbide drills the same as through-coolant drills?

Not necessarily. Solid carbide identifies the tool material, while through-coolant describes how coolant is delivered. A drill may have both characteristics; check the specification of the exact model before selecting it.

Can one drill be used for every workpiece material?

Do not assume the same drill specification and cutting settings suit every material. Provide the workpiece grade, condition and operation so the model and setup can be reviewed for the job.

Why should I check shank diameter as well as drill diameter?

The cutting diameter determines the nominal drill size, while the shank diameter determines how the tool fits in the holder. Both are listed separately and should be matched before ordering.
