Corner Radius End Mills for High-Temperature Alloys

Order corner radius end mills by more than cutting diameter. AXIMET's four-flute SGRB series combines a flat cutting end with a radius at the outer corner, helping buyers specify the profile required for a high-temperature alloy component.

  • Corner-radius profile for specified floor-to-wall transitions
  • Four-flute SGRB series with model-level specifications
  • Compare diameter, corner radius, cutting length and shank

Match the Corner Radius to the Part Drawing

Two SGRB tools can share a cutting diameter while having different corner radii. Compare the radius with the feature drawing and the programmed toolpath, then check cutting length and holder clearance. Include the exact alloy grade and condition with your request.

  • Record the cutter diameter and corner radius together.
  • Check the available cutting length for the intended engagement.
  • Match the shank to the holder used in the machining setup.

SGRB Series and Radius Options

The SGRB catalog lists 27 four-flute model records. Each row identifies the model, cutting diameter, corner radius, flute length, overall length, shank diameter and flute count. Compare the complete row before ordering; a diameter on its own is not a sufficient identifier.

For example, SGRB0505 and SGRB0510 have the same listed cutting diameter but different corner-radius values. Keep D and R as separate order fields and use the full model number and part drawing to identify the intended profile.

Read the Drawing Before Selecting a Tool

Corner radius: Compare the radius at the cutter's outer corner with the transition on the part drawing. The finished feature also depends on the toolpath, machining allowance and setup; a matching tool radius alone does not establish the finished tolerance.

Cutting diameter: Check available clearance and the feature size. A matching diameter does not establish that two cutters have the same corner profile.

Flute length and overall length: Compare the cutting section with the required engagement, then assess the whole assembly against the part and fixture. Total tool length is not a substitute for a clearance check.

Shank diameter: Match the model's shank to the toolholder. Retain the shank size on each purchasing line when the order covers several diameters.

Applications and Profile Alternatives

A corner radius end mill can be considered for pockets, shoulders and stepped features where the part drawing calls for a radiused transition. Selection depends on the actual toolpath, the alloy and the accessible space around the feature.

A square end mill, a ball nose and a corner-radius end mill produce different end profiles. A ball nose has a rounded end across the tool; a corner-radius tool has a flatter end with radiused outside corners. If the part requires a sharp internal corner, check that requirement against the tool profile before ordering.

Provide the specific alloy grade and condition, operation, machine, holder and coolant arrangement when enquiring. If the component has a restricted pocket or shoulder, include the drawing and access requirement. Cutting conditions must be reviewed for that tool and setup rather than copied from an unrelated material group or cutter.

Preparing Your Order

List each SGRB model and its quantity separately. Include your component or tool drawing, required dimensional checks, material grade and machining task. For trial or repeat orders, retain the approved drawing revision and sample references with the purchasing record.

If you require a specific label, barcode or packaging format, provide the details with your quotation request. This helps align the requested assortment and identification with your purchasing requirements.

Compare the SGRB corner profile with the square end mill for high-temperature alloys and ball nose end mill for high-temperature alloys before substituting a cutter.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the corner radius do on an end mill?

It describes the rounded transition at the tool's outer cutting corner. Compare it with the part drawing and toolpath because it affects the profile produced at a floor-to-wall transition.

Are SGRB0505 and SGRB0510 interchangeable for the same part?

Not automatically. Compare each cutter’s corner radius with the part drawing and programmed path; confirm the remaining dimensions and holder before changing the specified model.

Is a corner radius end mill the same as a ball nose?

No. A corner-radius tool has a flatter end with rounded outer corners; a ball nose has a rounded end profile across the cutter. Select the geometry that matches the feature.

How many flutes are specified for SGRB?

The listed SGRB series has four flutes. Review the model table for each item's diameter, radius, lengths and shank.

Which dimensions affect holder fit and access?

Shank diameter determines the required clamping size. Overall length, cutting length, holder projection and surrounding clearance should also be reviewed against the setup.

What should a distributor send for a quote?

Provide the model codes, quantities per item, alloy grade and condition, part or tool drawing, and any inspection, marking, sample or packaging requirements.
