Solid Carbide Square End Mills for High-Temperature Alloys

Build a machining-tool range around the part features your customers need to produce. The SGE series brings together four-flute square end mills for high-temperature alloy applications, with individual models listed by diameter, cutting length and shank size.

  • Square-end profile for slots, flat floors and shoulders
  • Four-flute SGE series with individual catalog models
  • Model dimensions for building mixed industrial orders

Select the SGE End Mill for Your Machining Requirement

A square-end profile is a starting point for flat-bottomed features and straight walls. To choose the right SGE model, compare the part drawing with the cutting diameter, flute length and holder clearance. Include the alloy grade and machine setup in your enquiry so the intended application is clear.

  • Match the cutter diameter to the feature and programmed toolpath.
  • Check the flute length against the intended axial engagement.
  • Compare shank diameter and overall length with your holder and available space.

SGE Series and Model Selection

The SGE catalog contains 17 four-flute model records. The specification table lists each model with cutting diameter, flute length, overall length, shank diameter and flute count. Review the complete row before selecting an item: two tools with the same cutting diameter can have different shank sizes.

For example, SGE0304A and SGE0304 have the same listed cutting diameter but different shank diameters. Record the full model code on each order line: choosing by diameter alone could select a cutter that does not fit the intended holder.

Dimensions to Check Before Ordering

Cutting diameter: Check that the tool fits the required slot width, pocket geometry and programmed path. The diameter alone does not describe the whole cutter.

Flute length: Compare the fluted section with the axial cutting engagement. A longer cutting section may be needed for one operation but is not automatically the right choice for every setup.

Overall length and holder clearance: Look at the assembled tool and holder in relation to the part, fixture and spindle. Overall length is not the same as usable reach into a feature.

Shank diameter: Match each model to the toolholder's clamping size. Record the shank alongside the cutter diameter when a range includes several holder sizes.

Applications and Workpiece Details

Use the part feature to start the selection: a slot, an open shoulder and a pocket can call for different tool access and engagement. The SGE square-end profile addresses a different geometry from a ball nose or corner-radius cutter. Review the specified toolpath and drawing rather than treating the three profiles as direct substitutes.

High-temperature alloy is a broad description. State the exact grade and supply condition, and whether the application is slotting or side milling. Share the machine, holder and coolant arrangement so the intended engagement and chip evacuation can be reviewed for that setup. Do not transfer cutting settings from a different tool solely because the material name is similar.

Build a Repeatable Purchase Specification

Send model codes and quantities per item, together with the part drawing or target dimensions. For a trial order, identify the sample quantity and the dimensions or documents your team needs to review. If marking, barcodes or a particular packing format are required, include those details with the enquiry.

Keep the approved model and drawing reference with your purchasing records. If the toolholder, workpiece or order requirements change, share the revision when requesting the next quotation.

Compare the flat-ended SGE range with the ball nose end mill for high-temperature alloys and corner radius end mill for high-temperature alloys when the part geometry requires another profile.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a square end mill used for in high-temperature alloys?

A square-end tool is selected for features such as flat-bottomed pockets, slots and straight shoulders. Check the alloy grade, feature geometry and setup against the model before selecting the cutter.

How many flutes do the SGE models have?

The listed SGE series has four flutes. Check each model row for its cutting diameter, flute length, overall length and shank diameter.

How do I select an SGE model for an existing toolholder?

Check the holder’s clamping diameter against the complete SGE model row. Include the alloy grade, material condition and operation in the inquiry so the selection can be reviewed.

Why should I specify the exact alloy grade and condition?

High-temperature alloys cover different materials and conditions. The grade and condition, together with the operation and setup, help the supplier review the requested model for the intended application.

Which SGE details matter for a slot versus an open shoulder?

For either operation, provide the alloy grade, feature dimensions and selected model. A slot also requires review of side clearance and chip evacuation; an open shoulder has a different engagement and access arrangement.

Can one SGE cutter diameter be used for every pocket width?

No. Compare the selected cutting diameter with the pocket width, required inside corners and programmed toolpath. The chosen cutter and holder must also clear the feature during the intended operation.
